We’re jump-starting treatment for cardiac rhythm disorders at Canberra Hospital!

Two years ago, Dr Rajeev Pathak (left) returned to Canberra from the United States to work with Dr Muayad Alasady (right) to launch an expanded cardiac electrophysiology service.

As of this week, the service is up and running, meaning public patients no longer need to travel to Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide for vital treatment such as cardiac ablation, which scars or destroys tissue in the heart that has allowed incorrect electrical signals to cause an abnormal heartbeat.

The new service allows patients and their doctors to decide whether cardiac rhythm conditions should be treated using medication, a pacemaker, an implantable cardioverter defibrillator or via surgery, right here in Canberra!
